Recognising traditional, First Nation place names

Thumbs up to Australia Post for the launch of new parcels marking traditional, First Nation place names. What a simple, yet powerful act during NAIDOC 2021 where Heal Country! is the theme.

You know those moments when you read or hear something that makes perfect sense & wonder why it hasn’t been done before? Earlier in the day I’d noticed a t-shirt message … While it may seem small, the ripple effects of small things is extraordinary.

NAIDOC 2021 invites the nation to embrace First Nations’ cultural knowledge and understanding of Country as part of Australia’s national heritage & equally respect the culture & values of Aboriginal peoples & Torres Strait Islanders as they do the cultures & values of all Australians.

People Recruitment Group & our specialist divisions Sportspeople Recruitment & People Recruitment acknowledge the Gadigal of the Eora Nation as the traditional custodians of this place we now call Balmain, the location of our International Recruitment Centre.

Moving forward we will include this acknowledgement in all our corporate material.

I’d encourage all businesses to investigate the First Nation place names and where possible, include this in your identification. You can start at the AIATSIS website – https://lnkd.in/gVqvQdB

Reminds me of another t-shirt I saw passing by … if you cannot do great things, do small things in a great way.
